Children’s Book

 

Smells take us places. Smells remind us of people, objects and moments.
The smell of rain on hot pavement,
The smell of books as you enter a book store,
The smell of your favorite kitchen,
The smell of grass that has just been cut,
The subtle smell of a horse…

You are probably a horse smeller if:

You’ve found yourself while hugging the neck of a horse soaking in the smell, the mane, the moment, the connection.
You’ve left the barn for the day, and before you manage to shower, you smile when you smell the barn still lingering on you.
You find true joy in and look forward to the hot breath of a horse smelling you.

horse person, horse lover, all about horses, horse whisperer, horse addict, that horse smell, horsey from head to toe.

INTERACTIVE ART PROJECT:

Art that reaches beyond the gallery’s four walls has always intrigued me. I’ve wanted to do an art project that put handmade, artist books into their right environment. The gallery is not the right place to read and take in a book. While working on writing and illustrating I’m a Horse Smeller I came up with the idea of sending out the handmade edition of the book on an interactive art journey. I sent out eight of the ten books to close friends, family and fellow artists. I asked them to live with the book for a while, read it with their kids at bedtime, and let their kids thumb through it. This is where this book belongs. I asked them to post about the experience on Instagram using the hashtag #horsesmeller and to write a little something in the back of the book. Then I asked them to send the book on to another family who they’d think would enjoy the book. And so on it goes. The idea is that all the books will travel this way for a year and a half. I have no idea what will become of this, and that might be the best part about it!!!
